WELCOME TO OUR NATION. There have been many tragedies and injustices bestowed upon all races throughout history. Muriel Walker is just another example of this and another against our Indigenous people. Muriel was a simple young girl doing what every other child her age did... having fun, she played and dreamt of becoming important one day. One of her aspirations was to become a ballerina. This was her foremost ambition. She spent many hours practicing dance and trying to raise money to pay for her ballet lessons. She came from an abusive home in downtown Toronto. Her parents were alcoholics and disrupted Muriel's life at every opportunity. Muriel tried to be different from her family and looked endlessly to break away from her environment. She had to run away from home often to avoid her sexually abusive father only to be returned by the authorities. What kept her alive and motivated were her dreams. She truly believed it would become a reality one day if she kept working at it. Muriel was a good looking girl with a tactful and witty personality. She was liked by all who came across her path. One day she met a boy... the son of her parents landlord. His family were middle class and established in the community. They hit it off right from the start. In the meantime Muriel's life was beginning to blossom. She was given the opportunity to enroll in a local ballet school and along the way she established good relations with a few prominent people from the ballet world. It was a chance meeting as she attended a ballet show at the Royal Alexander Theater. It was her persona that made her noticed more than anything else. Some of these people were probably the most prominent in all of Canada at that time. Now that she had caught their attention, she wanted to work harder and diligently at her dance. She had natural talent { Which was the general consensus by professionals that watched her.} Muriel's very first performance was just a local in house play at her dance studio. Nothing spectacular but it was a start.
